PUMPKIN CARVING at YMCA Youth Space

Raw Potential regularly partners with other service providers – such as YMCA, Headspace, Youth Coalition, QuANG, Pilgrim House, Kulture Break just to name a few. Recently our youth worker Nicolle partnered with YMCA Youth Space in Civic to host a Halloween party with some of our clients. Most of our clients access the YMCA Youth Space in Civic, so our outreach worker Nicolle spends a considerable amount of time there on a regular basis.

The Centre is extremely youth led, so when a young person has an idea, they try to facilitate it. The group asked if they could carve pumpkins for Halloween, so Nicolle and Zakia, YMCA Youth Coordinator agreed to host a Halloween themed party with fancy dress theme and party food as well as host a pumpkin carving activity. 8 pumpkins were generously donated by Farm Fresh, Fyshwick Markets and the group had a wonderful afternoon of carving pumpkins, decorating the space and enjoying the Halloween themed get together. Whilst on the surface it seems like a simple activity – this type of opportunity is not a regular one for the youth that attended. It was a fun activity that allowed the group to interact with other young people, participate in a group activity, take ownership of their designs with the pumpkins being displayed around the centre after the event.

The positive impact this event alone may have had on the attendees is immeasurable. A huge thank you once again to Farm Fresh, Fyshwick Markets!
