Raw Potential a huge winner as the Poo serves up a storm for great P² tennis fundraiser
Affectionately known as ‘the Poo’, and perhaps better remembered as the Scud for his missile-like service, Mark Philippoussis occasionally launched into serving overdrive as he competed light-heartedly in the annual P² Champions for Charity tennis tournament at the National Tennis Centre at Lyneham on March 14.
Along with other former Australian tennis legends and Davis Cup Captains John Fitzgerald and Canberra’s own Wally Masur, the Poo was incredibly accommodating and extremely responsive to the cause in raising money for this year’s designated P² charity fund recipients, Raw Potential Canberra (formerly Youth Care Canberra) and The Fly Program.
P² delivered incredible support in excess of $80,000 to Raw Potential Canberra from their Champions for Charity tennis tournament. The funds are being applied to the provision and running of a much-needed van to help our outreach workers do their work where it is needed, on the streets. The work on the streets is very much designed to get more of our almost 500 young people off the streets each night and with a roof over their heads.
The P² Champions for Charity tennis tournament has raised well over $1m since 2011 in support of local charities. Raw Potential Canberra chairman, Paul Kane expressed his gratitude for the staggering contribution as he was presented with a cheque at the end of the day.
Paul said, “This money will make a huge difference to the work of Raw Potential Canberra and we are incredibly grateful to Mark Peaty and everyone at P², and Canberra’s corporate community who turned up in support of the event. We look forward to reporting back this time next year on the use and impact of these funds.” Raw Potential is now seeking feedback via social media on design ideas for the Outreach Van.
